What the Heck Is a Soul Molt?

Yesterday, my daughter looked at me and said something I’ll never forget:

"Mom, I’m molting."

I blinked.

"What’s molting?" I asked.

Without hesitation, she replied:

"You know, like a snake sheds its skin."

Then she lifted her sleeve and showed me the flakes of skin peeling away from her arms.

I handed her my favorite luffa. She took a shower.

And my soul stood still.

Because it hit me: She’s not the only one molting.

I am too.

Not in the body. But in the spirit.

I’ve been naming it “grief,” “confusion,” “restlessness,” even “stuckness.” But maybe the word I was missing was this one:

Molt.

What is a Soul Molt?

It’s not a crisis. It’s not depression. It’s not a life collapse.

It’s that moment when the old version of you is just too tight to wear anymore. But the new version? Isn’t fully formed.

So you feel

Raw.

Exposed.

Tender.

Everything itches—internally and externally.

You don’t want to go back.

But you’re not ready to leap forward.

So you sit. You breathe. You flake. You molt.

And no one may even notice. Except the ones who’ve done it before.

This Isn’t Her First Molt.

And It’s Not Mine Either.

my daughter has been through the fire lately—hospital beds, diapers, rehab, loss of independence. Her body is doing what her spirit has already done: shed what no longer serves.

And me? I’ve left my homestead.

I’ve moved into a single room.

I’ve questioned everything—from God to survival to my voice.

And now?

We’re side-by-side. Molting.

Shedding skins we didn’t know we were still wearing. Letting parts of us flake away without force. Trusting that the new will rise beneath the surface.

What Happens During a Soul Molt:

  • You crave silence

  • You question everything

  • Your usual tools stop working

  • You feel like you’re disappearing

  • You notice what no longer fits: routines, people, roles, language, even clothes

  • You cry without knowing why

  • You laugh in the middle of grief

  • You whisper, "I don’t know who I am anymore"—and somehow, it’s a relief

And Then Something Wild Happens...

You stop performing. You stop explaining. You stop trying to make it okay.

And in the space where the old skin used to be? You hear a voice. Maybe God’s.

Maybe your own.

Maybe both.

And it says:

“You don’t need to rush this.
You’re not lost.
You’re not broken.
You’re becoming.

Why This Matters to The Hustle Habit

Because hustle would tell you:

“Fix it. Push through. Get back to who you were.”

But molting says:

“Trust the slowness. Trust the mess. You’re not going back.”

You’re not here to bounce back.

You’re here to shed forward.

So if you’re feeling raw, sensitive, unmotivated, or strangely aware that something is shifting inside you...

Welcome. You might be in a soul molt.

No schedule.

No pressure.

No roadmap.

Just this truth:

The snake is most vulnerable when it’s shedding.
But it’s also never more alive.

P.S. Want to know the other thing that blew my mind?

The day my daughter said she was molting… I pulled the Transformation card in my Osho Zen reading.

Of course I did.

Because God doesn’t just speak in prophecy. He speaks in skin.

And apparently… so do we.

📖Evicted On Purpose
The origin story. The philosophy. The collapse that became a map.
Evicted on Purpose began as a story of collapse — the moment everything familiar fell apart and nothing made sense. But inside the wreckage was a revelation. Every heartbreak was a coordinate. Every ending was an instruction. Every detour was a doorway. What started as one woman’s unraveling became a blueprint for awakening. This book didn’t just tell the story.

UNPodcast: Unredacted — Recorded Truth isn’t a show.

It’s a reckoning.

These are spoken recordings of my Substack writing—186 pieces read aloud exactly as written. No commentary. No coaching. No polishing for comfort.

This is truth spoken before it’s tidy.

Silence included. Breath included. Resistance included.

Every recording ends with one question—

the kind that quietly calls you on your own bullshit

and doesn’t let you off the hook for a while.

Listen in any order. Stop when something hits.

If you’re looking for answers, this isn’t that.

This is where the map starts revealing itself.
